Is your family ready for emergencies like hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes? How about zombies?

Maybe you’ve already read your kids That’s Not Your Mommy Anymore and they’ve got a basic understanding of zombies and how they affect family relationships.

However, without a an emergency kit and a plan, they still might not survive too long if they have to go foraging for food and water before things calm down a bit.

Fortunately, the CDC is here to help. Earlier this week (sorry, I don’t know how I missed this) the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention posted an article on their site about being prepared for a zombie apocalypse .

They recommend some items that you’ll need in your emergency kit, as well as what you need to know to make an emergency plan, like having an evacuation route and a place to meet up. (Of course, we can only hope that in the case of zombification, higher level brain functions like remembering where everyone is going to meet up will be lost.)

And, of course, in the case of a zombie outbreak, the CDC would be hard at work to find the source of the infection, provide assistance to infected cities, and — we hope — find a cure. (Of course, The Walking Dead didn’t seem too optimistic on that count.)
