The first week of 2012 might be the summer of 2011 all over.
It would seem that the rouge bandit of merry computer hackers known only as Anonymous is going after Sony once more…
Oh, and they’re going after Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, and Taylor Swift as well.
Anyhow, some might recall their previous efforts to bring the PlayStation Network down to its knees earlier this year, its first major outage, which was in response to Sony’s legal actions against George Hotz and his jailbreaking efforts.
Then you had the second one, the much bigger and messier outage, which was the action of another group LulzSec. Who, as the name implies, were in it for just the lulz. As the video spells out, the reason this time is because of Sony’s support of SOPA.
Their attitude is, because its purpose is to halt online businesses and restrict internet usage for many users, so it’s only fair that they get a taste of their own medicine. Which is fair enough.
But the real issue is why Sony is being singled out, since various other entities are supporting SOPA as well, including Apple and Nintendo. Well, with the later, what is there to take down? Their lack of an internet infrastructure might be to their benefit in such an instance.
According to this second video, Operation Blackout will commence on 1/3/2012… 2012 will be starting off with a bang, that’s for damn sure. So I’d suggest spending the remainder of 2011 by getting your fill of online play via the PS3 as possible, because who knows how long the next outage will last.
