’s SmartGlass aims to use your smartphone or as a second screen in the experience, and the company has now released the SDK that will allow developers to build the functionality into their games.

The SDK is now available on the Game Developer Network for registered partners, and Microsoft is including a SmartGlass JavaScript library, an SmartGlass Studio, as well as a demo application.

The SmartGlass Studio contains all the necessary tools and frameworks needed to begin developing for the new functionality, while the JavaScript library contains the device APIs that are promised to be consistent across platforms.

The sample application, meanwhile, gives developers an idea how to build their own working SmartGlass activities. Developers will be able to start tinkering with SmartGlass today, but consumers will have to wait until the Fall before they see the functionality making its way to the Xbox 360.
